CSO, Inc. values each individuals input, choice and potential.
CSO operates on principles that promote “person-centered
and directed services” focused on “independence”
with the use of available natural and community-based supports.
However, since accessibility, opportunity and equity have
not been fully achieved for persons with disabilities, CSO,
Inc. makes ongoing efforts to develop resources, to identify
services and to educate and inform about disability issues
and needs. One such effort is the Parent, Advocate and Support Group
(PASG) that meets at CSO, Inc.’s offices 9 times each
year. CSO convenes these meetings to disseminate information
about legislation, State entitlement services, long term
planning, legal issues and community-based services and
resources. In 2003, PASG identified independent adult housing
as a primary need. PASG members have begun development of
a legislative agenda and proposal to increase funding of
home-based support services during 2004. They are also investigating
the development of group homes and various housing alternatives.
CSO, Inc. participates with various coalitions and work
groups for the promotion of human service system reform.
CSO, Inc assertively educates federal, State and local legislators
about disability issues. It compiles and distributes information
about service utilization and consumer needs. This web-site,
CSO, Inc.’s, publications and e-newsletters make people
aware and inspire action in the interests of people with
disabilities.
